Deut 28:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, IF THOU shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, IF THOU shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
If we obey we shall be blessed. “IF THOU” shows us that if we observe to do all his commandments, we will be set on high and blessings shall overtake us. All we have to do is be obedient and God will bless us!
This could not be further from the truth, but it is easy to misunderstand the meaning of the New Covenant.
2 Cor 1:17-20 (KJV)
17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay? 18 But as Godis true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. 20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
All the promises in him are YEA (YES)!
The Old Covenant was based upon you and me, but the New Covenant is not, it is based solely upon HIM! The New Covenant IS Jesus Christ, and if my faith is in Jesus Christ then I am in the New Covenant. It is no longer obedience to work, but obedience to faith “truth”.
Jesus Christ had total victory and because of his victory, God can now say “Yes” every time! “If thou” no longer applies because “HE DID”! It is no longer about obedience but faith, faith in Jesus Christ and him crucified.
What law did we have to obey to receive salvation? Work is not required to be saved; simply believing in one’s heart Christ died our sins. What law does a person need to obey in their daily life? Again, work is not required; simply believing in one’s heart Christ’s shed blood sanctifies.
Jesus Christ is the new covenant for all those that believe!
